Accountants for Limited Companies
Run by Contractors

Tech Accounting acts for contractors who trade through their own limited company, sometimes called a personal service company or PSC. Most of our clients are IT and tech contractors working outside IR35, and the same service suits any contractor billing a day rate through a company they own.

If you already have a company, we take it on at any point in its year. If you are still deciding between PAYE, an umbrella and a limited company, our guide to PAYE vs umbrella vs limited company walks through the numbers, and the contractor take-home pay calculator shows the take-home difference for your day rate.

What a Limited Company Accountant
Does for You

A limited company has more moving parts than a sole trade: Companies House and HMRC both expect filings,
and the director is personally responsible for getting them in on time.

Here is what we take off your plate, every year, for one fixed fee:

Company Filings Done

Year-end statutory accounts prepared and filed with Companies House, the confirmation statement submitted, and the Corporation Tax return filed with HMRC. You sign; we do the rest.

Every Deadline Diarised

Accounts are due nine months after your year end and Corporation Tax is payable nine months and one day after it. VAT is quarterly, payroll is monthly, your personal return is due 31 January. We track all of it so nothing is late.

Pay Yourself Tax-Efficiently

We set your director’s salary, run payroll, and plan dividends around the profit the company actually has. You keep more of what you bill, without taking money the company cannot spare.

An Accountant Who Answers

Unlimited access to your accountant by phone and email. Ask about an expense, a contract, a pension contribution or a large purchase before you commit, not after.

FreeAgent for Free

Every Tech Accounting client gets full access to FreeAgent as part of the monthly fee. FreeAgent is cloud accounting software built for contractors and small businesses, and it is the platform we run your books on. Paying for it directly would normally cost you up to £330 a year.

Bank feeds bring your transactions in automatically. Invoicing comes with day-rate and time-based templates and payment tracking. Expenses are captured from your phone when you are on site, and a live tax timeline shows what is due and when.

You get a real-time view of profit, cash and what you can take as dividends, wherever you are working. We are certified FreeAgent Partners, so setup and any migration from your current software is handled for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a limited company accountant cost?

Tech Accounting charges a fixed £120 a month plus VAT, with your first month at £60. That covers statutory accounts, the Corporation Tax return, quarterly VAT returns, bookkeeping in FreeAgent, payroll for one director, P11D and P60, your personal Self Assessment return and year-round tax advice. There are no extras for the basics.

Do I need an accountant for a limited company?

There is no legal requirement to use one, but a limited company has to file accounts and a confirmation statement with Companies House and a Corporation Tax return with HMRC, on top of VAT, payroll and your own tax return. Late filings carry automatic penalties. Most contractors find a fixed-fee accountant costs less than the time and risk of doing it themselves.

What is the difference between a limited company accountant and a contractor accountant?

A limited company accountant looks after the company: its accounts, tax and filings. A contractor accountant does that for a company whose owner contracts for a living, and understands the things that come with it, such as IR35, working on client sites and gaps between contracts. Tech Accounting is both.

Can you take over my company part-way through the year?

Yes. We request professional clearance and your records from your current accountant, bring your data into FreeAgent, and pick up whichever filings are next due.

What do I need to send you each month?

Very little. FreeAgent’s bank feed brings your transactions in automatically; you raise invoices in FreeAgent and photograph receipts with the app. We do the bookkeeping from there and ask you only when something needs a decision.

Do you help with IR35?

We act for contractors working outside IR35 and we understand how the rules affect the way your company is paid and taxed. We do not decide your IR35 status; that is between you and your client. Our IR35 guide explains how status is determined and what it means for your company.
